The California Department of Water Resources (DWR) has Posted the Delta Research Station Draft EIS/EIR at: http://deltaresearchstation.com/Library.html

The Army Base, now vacant after serving for many years as an Army Reserve Center, was successfully acquired by the City of Rio Vista thanks to the cooperative efforts between the Federal Government, the Department of the U.S. Army, State of California and Rio Vista.

In 2009, the City Council evaluated the feasibility of designating the Army Base as a Redevelopment Project Area, and in 2010, the City Council approved Project Area B, the Army Base, as a Redevelopment Area.  As a Redevelopment Area it is the goal of the City Council/Agency members to develop the site, generating jobs, sales tax, and revenues to the City.

The City of Rio Vista is currently part of a "Memorandum of Understanding" with the California Department of Water Resources for a 12-acre Science Center, and with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for a 5-acre Fish Hatchery on this site, leaving more than 11 acres for recreational purposes, hotels, conference center, boat docking, etc.

The Army Base Land Use Plan

* Recreation facilities and marine uses

* Conference Center and Hotel site

* Uses encouraged to allow delta fish and wildlife study

* Overall site of greater than 28 acres to accommodate plans

* Over 1200 feet of water frontage on this rolling site

* Leads to Sandy Beach Park

* Adjacent to the Rio Vista Marina and restaurant

On January 6, 2011, the City Council and Redevelopment Agency approved the final Program EIR for the Army Base. For a copy of the EIR please contact the City Manager’s office.
